Jansenville man dies after allegedly jumping off cliff in Graaff-Reinet

UPDATE | The 27-year old Jansenville resident who allegedly jumped to his death from a steep cliff was identified by his family as Nkosinathi Liesching.


A man from Jansenville allegedly jumped to his death from the steep cliff adjacent to the Graaff-Reinet Urquhart Caravan Park over the weekend.

According to Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, police spokesperson, it is alleged that the 27-year-old man on Saturday, 2 April at about 13:00 jumped from the steep section of the cliff.

The cliff is more than 50 metres high.

The police cannot at this stage reveal the identity of the deceased. “His name is being withheld until relatives identify his body,” said Nkohli. 

An inquest docket was opened for further investigation. 

According to eye witnesses, the man was at a party in the caravan park.

A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed the man wandered away, climbed to the top of the cliff and jumped.
