ACCORDING to a media statement, the council and mayoral committee of Inxuba Yethemba Municipality is going to go all out to recover outstanding debts from residents who do not pay their dues to the municipality.
According to the Municipal Manager, Xolela Msweli, the outstanding amounts are mostly from residents in wards 1, 2 and 3.
“As part of the measures to recover the debt from consumers who do not pay, we will be left with no option but to blacklist those that are working and capable of paying, but do not do so,” Msweli said.
He also announced that the Executive Mayor, Ray Shweni, will soon be launching “Operation Bhatala” as a measure of optimi-sing revenue collection.
Ward councillors will be invited to be part of the revenue enhancement committee to be exposed to their wards’ collection levels.
“The collapse or sustainability of our municipality is our collective responsibility and I urge those that have outstanding debts to be responsible and assist Inxuba Yethemba in this manner,” he said.
