CONGRATULATORY messages have been pouring in on Democratic Alliance councillor Samantha Graham’s Facebook page since she received the following letter of confirmation from James Selfe, chairperson of the federal executive of the DA, on Sunday:
“Dear Samantha, I have great pleasure in informing you officially that, according to the provisional results, you have been elected as a Member of the National Assembly. Congratulations!”
Said an elated Graham, “I am so blessed to be given an opportunity to serve my party and my country in Parliament for the next five years.”
Graham will be officially sworn in on Wednesday, 22 May.
“It is through the hard work of all of our activists and the will of our voters that I have this opportunity. I am immensely grateful to my friends and colleagues who have been so much a part of this journey.”
When Mid-Karoo Express asked about her feelings, Graham admitted that she was still processing the implications of this life-changing, pivotal moment in her career and personal life.
“I am so excited about the challenges that lie ahead. I so hope that I can make a real difference!”
She also said that she owes most to her family.
“It is my amazing family to whom my greatest thanks must go – my Mom, Dallis Graham, who was part of this dream from the beginning, my special children, Josh Jankovich and Annie Jankovich who always believed I could do it. And finally, to my wonderful fiancé, Rodney Mare, who has been my strength and support through it all. I love you to the world and back.”
