Certificates and trophies were recently awarded to students who played their part in the 10 sporting clubs at Grootfontein College of Agriculture over the past year.
Vice president of Netball South Africa, Christine du Preez, was the guest speaker at the gala dinner. She also, together with Themba Cebani, principal at the college, presented the awards to those students who had excelled in archery, choir, golf, netball, paintball, golf development, rugby, squash, soccer and volleyball.
In the rugby awards category, Adriaan Stander received the award for most tries scored;, Jean Niemand was awarded the rugby players player of the year and Alex Greig was awarded rugby player of the year for 2019.
In squash, Karla Esterhuyse was awarded best ladies’ squash player whilst Joshua Joubert received best men’s player. Volleyball awards went to Zintle Ntshibongo as the best ladies’ spike athlete, Andiswa Nkabi as best ladies’ setter, Nangamso Mbelekane as best ladies server and Zanele Nkabi as ladies’ player of the season.
Students in other sporting codes were awarded as follows:
Golfer of the Year: Rico van der Mescht
Development Golfer of the year: Mlindelwa Mgugunyeka
Top goal scorer: Luxolo Lumkwana
Most outstanding netball player: Andiswa Nkabi
Paintball Sniper of the year: Gian Dippenaar.
