A YOUNG girl from Cradock Primary School set an example recently when she decided, all on her own, to go to a local hairdresser to have her beautiful brown hair cut off.

Ashley Muller (11), a Grade 5 learner, now has a plait 30cm long, that she intends to donate for the making of wigs for children who suffer from cancer. She told her mother that she was doing it in memory of her grandmother who died of cancer two years ago.

“This was Ashley’s own decision and I was taken quite by surprise when she asked me to take her to the hairdresser,” her mother, Beverley, said.

This was not the first time that Ashley had shown her potential as a person who cares for others. About six months ago, while their age group was running at an athletic meeting, Ashley noticed that one of the other girls was struggling to keep up, so she stopped, waited for her and pushed her little friend over the finishing line ahead of her. Her school presented her with an award for caring after this gesture.
