GILL Primary School recently hosted their first Super 8’s cricket tournament to raise the profile of cricket in Somerset East and its immediate surroundings.

The teams representing Somerset East were Saint Theresa’s, William Oates and Gill Primary, who fielded two teams. Volkskool Primary from Graaff-Reinet and Mount Pleasant from Port Elizabeth were the visiting sides competing for top honours.

Volkskool and Mount Pleasant dominated the first two rounds with Gill 1 and St Theresa fighting to stay in the competition. Saints beat Volkskool in spectacular fashion ensuring that Gill 1 faced the firm tournament favourites, Mount Pleasant.

In the end the hosts stayed calm under pressure and sealed victory in a low-scoring final.

Gill Primary thanked the Grade 7 parents for their support and help on the day, as well as the coaches who spent their entire day umpiring and encouraging their boys.

Gill Primary also thanked to their clothing sponsor, I.T.S Pumps, and Seals and Status Toyota Somerset East, for their sponsorships.
