FORMER Amavarara FC assistant coach, Athi Sali, has joined SAB Regional League side, Noshumi United, after leaving the ABC Motsepe League club earlier this month.

Sali, who also played for Amavarara in the SAB Regional League, will serve as an assistant coach to former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates player, Thabo Mngomeni, who signed for the team at the beginning of last season.

In a statement, the Cacadu-based side, Noshumi United FC, through their Chairman, Lwandiso Matoti, confirmed the presence of Sali.

“Noshumi United Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Athi Sali as the Assistant Coach to Thabo Mngomeni,” the chairman said in a statement sent to Komani-Karoo Express.

“This appointment is in line with my pronouncements that as a team we continue to take the Developmental Approach which we believe will benefit Emalahleni and the Chris Hani District by investing in our own. I want him to grow with the club and one day take over as the head coach,” the chairman said.

Sali, who is originally from Emalahleni Local Municipality, and who has assisted different coaches at Amavarara in the ABC Motsepe League, said he is pleased to join the Cacadu-based side.

“I am pleased to be here and look forward to getting started,” said the coach.

“I think everyone has been watching the story of Noshumi United unfold and I have been very impressed with the direction of the club and the core values upon which it is built,” said Sali in a statement. “When the opportunity to connect with Coach Thabo and the team arose, I knew I had to explore it. Leaving Amavarara was not an easy decision, but the chance to join Noshumi as the assistant coach of a new team was something I could not pass up.”

Sali was also on the sidelines last week when the team held trials in Cacadu.
