The Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) Commercial
Crimes Court at a sitting in Cradock found a farmer, Jacques de Bruin from
Komani district, guilty on four counts of fraud and four counts of
forgery.

He was sentenced on 21 May to collectively seven years imprisonment.

De Bruin was also found guilty on another
four counts of money laundering and was sentenced to an additional seven years
imprisonment on this matter.

The sentences will run concurrently.

In 2014 he forged documents from suppliers and then defrauded the OVK by supplying them with these fake invoices for feed that was delivered to him. The amount that OVK paid to the fake suppliers totalled an amount of R1 055 400.

The investigating officer, Detective
Warrant officer Christiaan Potgieter, was commended for his hard work,
dedication and diligence which resulted in the conviction and sentencing of De
Bruin.
