Gadgets
of an unnamed engineering company have been seized by the East London and
Gqeberha based Serious Corruption Investigation teams of the Hawks, together
with East London Digital Forensic Laboratory, after an alleged multimillion fraud
involving Inxuba Yethemba Local Municipality.

Hawks
provincial spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said the seizure was done on
Wednesday, March 23.

“During
2020, an engineering company is alleged to have been awarded a tender worth R12
million by Inxuba Yethemba Local Municipality to conduct a feasibility study of
landfills at Middelburg and Cradock areas,” she said.

Mgolodela
said in 2021, a whistle-blower informed the Hawks on allegations that the engineering company was paid for services that were never rendered.

“This
is the second search by the Hawks. Among the articles seized are gadgets and
documents that are believed will be useful as the case is reaching an advanced
stage,” said Mgolodela.
