ORGANISERS of the Karoo Food Festival in Cradock, from April 26 to 28, are offering R100 booking discount as a pre-Easter bonus.

“Anyone who books to attend two of the festival masterclasses will save R100, paying only R400 for the two tickets,” said Lisa Ker, festival organiser. “We hope this will help to make more pleasure accessible to more people.”

The masterclasses include a Paint Karoo Food workshop with artist Annari Oosthuyzen (wine-tasting included) and two demos on making soft cheeses with June Culinary Studio.

Robert Ferguson will introduce making salami and cabanossi at home; Kim van Niekerk (fresh back from a month-long yoga and food trip to India) presents an update on the health benefits of spicy food and Heyla Meyer reveals the secrets of making Karoo condiments and preserves.

Karen McEwan of Fairfield Foods will demo the artisan breads that always impress dinner guests.

As a closer to her masterclass, she will stack and embellish a special occasion layer cake.

Foodies will leave Amy Coetzer’s masterclass on ferments and infusions with a wealth of knowledge about how to make a sourdough starter with wild yeasts, keeping you kombucha and kefir happy and the basic methods of making vodka-based liqueur-type infusions.

More details about the masterclasses are available on www.karoofoodfestival.weebly.com. To book, e-mail karoofoodfestival@gmail.com

The festival programme offers lots to enjoy for everyone: a Friday night Brew and Braai party (pumping craft beer and live music) in the Theron du Plessis event tent, a two-day food market with tastings, masterclasses, free demos, fine coffee, gin bars, live music, a children’s programme, special Saturday night Karoo festival menus at a range of restaurants, and so much more. The main venue is once again The Palms, with its extensive grounds, shady nooks and easy parking.

Out and about, farm-hopping itineraries, a trail run and mountain biking will keep the adrenalin levels high.
