The Ezibeleni-based netball team, Eagles, have again asserted their dominance in the Enoch Mgijima Twizza Netball Club Championship, recording a 27-6 win against their rivals, Super Strikers, also from Ezibeleni, in the fifth round at Man’s Netball Courts in Komani on Sunday afternoon.
The win means Eagles remain on top of the Enoch Mgijima Twizza Netball Club Championship, and move onto 10 points, having played five games, while Super Strikers are in second with eight points after five games.
Molteno’s Slovo Girls are still in the mix, as they are in third place with six points and a game in hand. They played four games, winning three and losing to league leaders, Eagles.
Slovo Girls are equal on points with Komani fan-favourites, Inkwenkwezi Netball Club, who are in fourth place after five games played, They have won three games and lost to Eagles and Super Strikers.
Eagles’ coach, Wandisa Madolo, said her team needed to stay humble and to continue to work hard if they wanted to qualify to play at provincial level.
“Of course, in the region, if the team is winning against Super Strikers and Inkwenkwezi. It is massive and it boosts the confidence of the team and the self-belief that we can make it all the way to the final,” Madolo told Komani-Karoo Express.
“But it is a process, we need to stay humble and try to win our next games because it is not going be easy.”
Netball South Africa, in partnership with Twizza, launched this new club tournament last year, hoping that it would provide an equal opportunity to netball players, coaches, umpires, and administrators, to display their abilities at a competitive level.
This will also open the door to unearth new talent and give netball enthusiasts, at local level, the opportunity to be selected for the SPAR National Championships, followed by the Telkom Netball League, and the SPAR Proteas.
