Police in Cookhouse arrested five people in two separate incidents when SAPS Cookhouse Highway Patrol members conducted patrols, as well as stop and searches in Cookhouse on February 4 and 5.
According to police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, the first three arrests were conducted on February 4 when members were engaged in proactive policing in the Bongweni location.
“During their stop and searches, a total of one sword, six knives and 28 straws of tik were confiscated,” said Naidu.
She said the three suspects aged between 20 and 25 years old were arrested on charges of possession of drugs.
Naidu said the estimated value of the drugs is approximately R540.
She further said in the second incident, two suspects from Kariega, aged 26 and 66 years old were arrested on February 5, when members followed up on information received of a brown Toyota Corolla transporting drugs from Gqeberha to Cradock.
“The vehicle was spotted near Cookhouse on the N10 and stopped. A total of 143 mandrax tablets were found in a compartment in the car. The estimated value of the drugs is R11 340,” said Naidu.
She said the suspects are detained on charges of dealing and possession of drugs.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear in court today, February 6 on their respective charges.
