TWO Chris Hani District netball teams District champions: Inkwenkwezi Netball Club from Komani and runners-up Deberha Netball Club, have been knocked out of the Eastern Cape Twizza Netball Club Championships that were held in East London on Saturday.

The two teams played out in the final of the Twizza Chris Hani District Netball Championships that were held in Komani two weeks ago.

Komani’s Inkwenkwezi became the District Champions beating Deberha 21-18 in the final but the side from Engcobo booked a ticket to East London by playing in the final.

District Champions were in Group C and played against G Force Netball Club from Sarah Baartman, Vinny’s Netball Club from Buffalo City Metro and Templeton Netball Club from Amathole.

The Komani side, which was not playing for the first time at Provincial level, won one game against Templeton 7-4 while losing the other two. Engcobo’s Deberha had a very unsuccessful stay in the tournament as they lost all their group games.

Chris Hani Club Netball Association Convener of Coaches and Organiser, Thembelihle Selana, said both teams took the positives in the tournament.

“We were playing in very difficult environment with experienced teams but I think the teams took the positives in the tournament. When you are young you are very individually focused, but as you gain more experience and grow older you become more focused on the team. We hope that when we go back next year we will do better and maybe go through the next round,” said positive Selana.

“We also had to put pause in our District tournament due to national lockdown that also played a role in our preparations for the tournament,” concluded Selana.
