THE Chris Hani District-based women’s football team, Cumakala Ladies’ FC, from Cacadu, moved to third place in the Provincial Sasol Women’s League Inland Stream, after beating Coastal United Ladies at Cicirha TVET College Sports Field in Mthatha, last week Saturday.

Oyama Mfakadolo scored a hat trick while Mahle Fatyela and Thozama Muhala rounded off the scoring for the side which is coached by Wezo Ndiki.

The win takes Cumakala to third place in the Inland Stream with 19 points, five points behind second-placed Ayakha Stars, also from Mthatha, while Executive Ladies from Ntabankulu remain at the top of the log with 26 points with two games remaining.

Coastal United is languishing at the bottom of the table without a single win this season after 12 games. Ndiki was very happy with a win, especially playing away from home.

“We are very happy with three points (for the win). Scoring five goals away (from home) is a great achievement. We went to Mthatha knowing we were playing a struggling side that wanted to escape relegation and those are very difficult teams to play against towards the end of the season.

“At half time we agreed, as a team, to push harder to win the game. I want to give credit to Oyama Mfakadolo with her quick fire (aggressive play); we got exactly what we wanted and I am proud of my players,” concluded Ndiki.

Another side from Engcobo, Eluhewini Ladies, suffered their fourth loss of the season, at the hands of log leaders, Executive Ladies in Ntabankulu, last week Saturday.

Eluhewini is still in fifth place in the log standings, with 16 points from 12 matches.

Both teams will take a week’s break before taking each other on in the Chris Hani derby on Saturday, October 12, which will be both teams’ penultimate game of the season.
