CRADOCK Primary School’s team who cares about the environment, was one of only 19 teams from across the country invited to take part in the final round of the annual Sasol-Forever Resorts Enviro Quiz competition, which was held at Gariep Dam.
A total of 934 teams participated in the early stages of the competition, from which the 19 top contestant teams were chosen. The team from Cradock earned the highest marks of all the Eastern Cape schools during the preliminary rounds.
It was the fourth year in a row that a team from Cradock Primary was invited to participate in the final round.
The theme for this year was “Air Pollution – The Silent Killer”.
The teams chosen for the final round all had to complete a task where they had to measure the extent of air pollution at their school, and find reasons why there was so much day-to-day variation and also how to reduce air pollution, and make people more aware of the dangers.
In the final round, teams had to give a 10-minute presentation on the topic, prepare an exhibition, and had to present an environmental song.
The weekend concluded with a prestigious gala dinner where Cradock Primary’s enviro team ended up in a well-deserved fourth position.
Linda Gowar, a natural sciences educator at Cradock Primary School, showed again that all her hard work and dedication paid off in making sure the school’s enviro team stood out with quality work, excellent behaviour and a great team spirit.
