CRADOCK Police Detective Constable Siyabonga Ntsimango’s excellent work resulted in long jail sentences for a robber and murderer in two separate cases.
In the robbery case, a sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment was handed down to Simpiwe Notwala (23). His conviction stemmed from an incident in the evening of October 10, 2017.
During this incident the accused and his friend approached the complainant, Lithamsanqa Matya, and his girlfriend. At knifepoint, they demanded a cellphone and an Evans baseball cap, worth R750, from Matya.
The suspects were traced and the accused were arrested. On April 2, the suspect was found guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances at the Cradock Regional Court.
In a separate case, Ntsimango secured a 20-year sentence against Akona Jiba (31) for murder. Jiba’s conviction was related to an incident on May 8, 2018, when the deceased, 34-year-old Mzwamadoda Zilwa, came to his house to clarify an allegation that Jiba had assaulted his girlfriend. A fight ensued between the accused and the deceased during which Zilwa was stabbed in the chest.
He later died at Cradock Hospital.
Jiba was arrested and found guilty on a charge of murder at the Cradock Regional Court on April 15.
The Cluster Commander of Cradock Cluster, Brigadier Madoda Zamkana, commended Ntsimango on his diligence and dedicated investigative work and welcomed the sentences handed down by the court.
“We hope that this will serve as a warning to all criminals out there that the SAPS is serious in its fight against crime.”
