The Chris Hani Jazz Festival was postponed indefinitely on Sunday, September 25 at the eleventh hour due to “matters beyond our control”.
This would have been the first since Covid-19 put a stop to social gathering.
In a joint statement by Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM) spokesperson Bulelwa Ganyaza and department of sport, recreation, arts and culture spokesperson Andile Nduna, jazz lovers were disappointed at the last minutes.

“We unfortunately had to postpone the festival and the decision was not taken lightly as it was informed by matters beyond our control. As the organisers of this annual jazz festival we express sincere apologies for this unforeseen postponement,” the statement said.
The festival was supposed to conclude the heritage month activities which included the official launch of the name change from Engcobo Local Municipality (LM) to Dr AB Xuma LM. The events also included unveiling of the statues of the late ANC stalwarts Walter Sisulu and Xuma.
