A 39-YEAR-OLD biker, from the small rural town of Cathcart, died tragically in a motorcycle accident this past weekend.
Raimondo van Heerden was on his way home after attending a bikers’ rally in Bloemfontein over the weekend when the accident happened.
According to his sister, Calpernia, her brother died at around 22:00, while on his way back home on Saturday.
The accident happened on a section of the road where roadworks were in progress. Raimondo hit a ditch in the road and was thrown off his bike. He suffered multiple injuries and died on the scene. He was travelling with his brother, Neil, from the rally.
An emotional Calpernia told Queenstown Express about the void her brother’s death had left in their lives.
“His hobby was clearly biking,” she said.
According to her, her brother leaves behind his partner of the past 18 years, as well as two daughters, his mother and other siblings.
The late Raimondo worked at Cathcart High School for many years where he did logistical planning.
