The Graaff-Reinet Protective
Workplace, trading as Boundless, is proud to once again partner with the
National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), for Casual Day on
Friday, September 2.
Casual Day is South Africa’s
leading fundraising and awareness campaign for Persons living with Disabilities
and is the flagship project of the NCPD.
According to Richard Bremner, chairperson
of the Graaff-Reinet Protective Workplace, the Graaff-Reinet Protective
Workplace has been in operation for 40 years and serves to give hope, purpose,
and dignity to those living with disabilities.
“Since the Karoo Community Church
took over the organisation from the ACVV in April 2017, it continues to flourish,
and we are very grateful for the support that we receive from our community,” said
Bremner.
On Casual Day, South Africans are
encouraged to go to work or school dressed differently – to either dress up or
dress down – in line with this year’s theme – #IcelebrateSA, and to wear the
official Casual Day sticker, to show their support for persons living with
disabilities.
Bremner said the campaign
encourages the public to contribute financially through a small donation of R20
for a sticker and at the same time, raise awareness and lobbies for the full
inclusion and equity for all people living with disabilities.
“So not only does it raise funds;
but it also raises awareness of the challenges and potential of the community
in a fun way,” said Bremner.
Casual Day is run in partnership
with its National Beneficiary Organisations who provide services and advocacy
work which include, The South African National Council for the Blind, the South
African Federation for Mental Health, the Deaf Federation of South Africa,
Autism South Africa, Down Syndrome South Africa, National Association for
Persons with Cerebral Palsy, the South African National Deaf Association, the
National Institute for the Deaf, Alzheimer’s South Africa, QuadPara Association
of South Africa, South African Disability Alliance, and the National Council of
and for Persons with Disabilities.

“We trust that, through the

awareness, sensitise your employees or team about people living with
disabilities whilst at the same time, have some fun,” said Bremner.
