A case of public violence is being investigated by Cradock SAPS after an incident on Wednesday evening, 28 October at about 18:00 where dissatisfied residents from Lingelihle and Michausdal in Cradock barricaded the N10 (Port Elizabeth/Cradock road) and the R61 (Cradock/Tarkastad road) with stones and burning tyres.
Captain Khaya Tonjeni, police spokesperson, said it is alleged that the dissatisfaction arose from poor service delivery.
“Trucks were thrown with stones and then two trucks and a bakkie were set alight. The total damage reported is estimated at about R1.3 milion,” Tonjeni said.
Road users are urged to make use of the Graaff-Reinet route, since the current situation is still tense. “Routes are being monitored by the SAPS.”
