THE Lady Frere Sports Legends will host the third annual gala dinner, which will be held at the Calabash, Hala Great Place, in Cacadu on Friday, December 27, 2019.

Lady Frere Sports Legends consist of former players from Emalahleni Local Municipality who played soccer, netball, rugby and other sporting codes professionally.

The purpose of the gala dinner is to raise funds to help the youth of the region in 2020.

Last year the foundation identified Nobuhle Junior Secondary School in Engqoko Village in Cacadu and during the year they went back to the school and donated school uniform, netball kit and athletics training material to the school.

This year, the foundation invited SABC radio commentator, Khangelwa Bomvana, who also hails from Cacadu, to be the guest speaker for the gala.

Others who will honour this event with their presence are two Eastern Cape-born FIFA match officials, Khulasande Qongqo, who will be making his third appearance in the event and Luyanda Nondala.

Former Kaizer Chiefs public relations officer and Chippa United team manager, Luthando Zibeko, will also be present on the night.

The former spokesperson of the Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders, Chief Ngangomhlaba Matanzima, will also be in attendance.

The foundation also organised an u/16 schools soccer tournament during the year, which was attended by scouts from Ajax Cape Town, who picked some of the talented youngsters from the region for a trial at their academy.

Three of those boys were signed and will be starting school in Cape Town next year.

“We are dedicated to making a difference to the community of the Emalahleni Local Municipality,” said LFSL chairperson, Zuko Mlandu.

“I would like to, once again, encourage all the businesses to get involved in moving this community forward.”

On the night, the foundation will also award some of the youngsters who played well during the year.
