Eastern Cape Transport MEC, Xolile Nqatha, has applauded rapid response teams for a job well done after they managed to save all 33 passengers who were travelling with long-distance bus company, Greyhound, when one of their coaches overturned on the N10 between Cradock and Cookhouse on June 17.
According to spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Unathi Binqose, at about 21:30 on June 17, the bus driver lost control under wet and slippery conditions.
“The bus veered off the road and rolled,” said Binqose.
He further said it was the rapid response of the teams that ensured there were no fatalities from the injured.
“The injured were transported to Andries Vosloo Hospital, three with serious injuries while 11 sustained minor injuries, the rest were treated on the scene and didn’t require any hospitalisation,” said Binqose.
