KOMANI-BASED rugby side, Breakers RFC, has once again failed to progress to the play-offs of the Eastern Cape Super 14 competition this year.
In six rounds of fixtures in the 2020 Eastern Cape Super 14 Rugby Tournament, Breakers only won once, against tournament newcomers Black Eagles, in their first game of the tournament, at home.
Breakers seemed to struggle more the longer the season went, as their last two games in the round robin competition were losses by huge margins.
In their last game, at home, they lost 47-12 at the hands of Harlequins from Port Elizabeth. They also lost 73-3 against another PE side, Park RFC.
Their biggest loss at home was a 68-3 against eventual finalists, Progress, at the Tobi Kula Indoor Sports Centre.
Breakers’ team manager, Solomon Manzi, said, “It was not a great season for us because we really wanted to play in the Gold Cup.
“We need to go back to the drawing board and rectify the mistakes and make sure that when the league starts the players are in a good state of mind.”
For the first time, this year, the tournament was played among 14 teams, unlike the 12 teams in the past.
The tournament will be coming to an end this weekend with East London’s Swallows RFC hosting Uitenhage’s Progress in the final.
