One of the oldest boxing clubs in the country, Queenstown Boys’ Boxing Club, in partnership with the Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture in the Chris Hani District and the Chris Hani District Municipality will host the annual boxing tournament at Ashley Wingaard Community Hall on Saturday, 19 March, at Aloevale in Komani.

Boxing fans in Komani are in for a treat as the boxing industry tries to rebound from the massive disruption caused by COVID-19. The tournament will also form part of anniversary celebrations as the club enters its 104th year.

This prestigious event will start at 10am until the last bout of the tournament.

Based in New Bright Location in Komani, QBBC has coached, guided, and helped thousands of young people from the day they first opened their doors.

Club coach, Mabhuti Mapeyi, who has been a part of this club way back in 1980, as small boy, said he is happy to witness the return of boxing after a difficult period due to the coronavirus.

“We are so super excited that we are going to witness boxing returning to the community of Komani this weekend.

“This tournament will also sharpen the appetite of boxing fans and will go a long way in reviving the sport in the region, especially after a difficult period of COVID-19.

“It is also an opportunity for amateur boxers to gauge their skills before getting the chance to compete in the upcoming boxing competitions,” said Mapeyi
