LOCAL boxing fans were treated to mouth-watering action during the 104th celebration boxing tournament of Queenstown Boys’ Boxing Club, which they hosted in partnership with the Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture in the Chris Hani District and the Chris Hani District Municipality, at Ashley Wingaard Community Hall on Saturday, at Aloevale in Komani.

The crowd was brought to their feet throughout the course of the tournament as it produced 42 bouts on the day.

The best bout was between Bongokuhle Mguzulwa, of QBBC, and Zimvo Caba, of East London Youth Boxing Academy and they both received trophies.

The Queenstown Boys’ Boxing Club, as host, entered the tournament with 20 boxers and were proud to have emerged victoriously, only losing eight fights and won the tournament after winning 12 bouts and walked away with a big trophy.

The boxing tournament featured teams from outside the Chris Hani District, such as Siyaqhuba Boxing Club and East London Youth Boxing Academy, both from Buffalo City Metro.

There were also teams from OR Tambo, Raymond Mhlaba Local Municipality, Makana Local Municipality, Amahlathi Local Municipality and Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, who came and participated in the celebration of the historic boxing club.

Mabhuti Mapeyi of QBBC was very happy with tournament. “I am happy and thankful for the support from the Chris Hani District Municipality, the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture and the community of Komani.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to the participating clubs and their fighters. Every fighter was outstanding and very impressive, and the officials did a good job,” said a happy Mapeyi.
