THE Cradock High School’s (CHS) rugby and netball teams excelled on April 6, when both teams won against Hangklip High School.
The first rugby game was tightly contested with CHS opening the score with a penalty through their fly-half, Raymond Tom, taking the lead at 3-0.
Hangklip scored in the 12th minute and took the lead to 5-3. A penalty kick saw an opportunity for CHS to set up a good maul and score in the corner, giving them a 10-5 half-time lead. The second half presented many opportunities for both teams and CHS showed some great defence at times.
CHS pressed hard in the Hangklip-half and received a penalty, taking a 13-5 lead. Hangklip later scored an unconverted try to make the final score 13-10. It was CHS’s first victory against Hangklip in seven years.
In addition, CHS played netball against Hangklip and won all six games. During the main game, CHS’s first team started well.
CHS won the match 21-16. Sisanda Zenzile was named the player of the contest.
The u/19 team won 20-13. The u/16A’s won 21-9 and the u/16B were 28-5 winners. The u/16C team won 13-6 and the u/14A’s won 12-10.
