VISITORS attending the festivities of the Nieu-Bethesda Pump Palooza, which takes place on April 20, must remember to visit the unique art quilt exhibition which will be held over the same weekend.
Fibre and textile artists from Cape Town, George, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg were invited to take part.
Each had to make a small art quilt, the size of an A4 page, depicting the theme: Pumpkin on the Roof.
Any technique or combination of techniques could be used.
More than 40 entries were received, and these small artworks will be on display at the Nieu Karoo Country Restaurant from Friday, April 19 to Monday, April 22. Many of the small quilts will also be on sale.
The exhibition is being arranged by Antoinette Kriel, an accredited teacher and judge with the South African Quilters Guild (SAQG).
“The SAQG is the co-ordinating body of quilting in South Africa, and was founded at the third National Quilt Festival held in Bloemfontein in 1989.
“The SAQG is the National Guild of South Africa, a non-profit association with 11 regional guilds represented and other quilting groups that are affiliated to the SAQG.”
Tickets will be for sale on Saturday, April 20 and Monday, April 22, for the SAQG raffle quilt.
