XONXA Dam will be the place to be this coming weekend, as angling clubs from around the Eastern Cape will converge for the second annual Baber Bonanza.
The competition is organised by the Komani Kraaines Fishing Club and it is expected to attract anglers from towns like East London, Cradock Kirkwood, Elliot, Rouxville and Aliwal North.
In a statement, Kraaines Fishing Club chairperson, Christopher Kay, said they were expecting at least 70 anglers to take part in the bonanza.
“This will be an event not to miss and we expect people from different parts of the province to come and enjoy the weekend of fun with us,” he said.
Kay said all anglers were welcome to come to the competition and bring their whole families along.
The three-day bonanza is scheduled to start at 18:00 on Friday up to Sunday with big prizes up for grabs.
The entry fee is R250 per angler, with the biggest catch guaranteeing a whopping R8 000 cash prize, while the second prize is R4 000.
“Children under the age of 12 are expected to pay a sum of R100. And there are strict rules,” said Kay.
No bait boats and canoes will be allowed on the day and each angler will only be allowed to use two rods.
“There will also be a lucky draw on the last day of the event on Sunday. No pegs will be drawn,” he said.
The Xonxa Dam, where the event is set to take place, is located about 30km outside Komani, along the Cacadu road.
