EZIBELENI-BASED ABC Motsepe League side, Amavarara FC, will be aiming to build on their up and down form this season when they take on Mthatha Bucks, at home, this weekend.

Amavarara welcome Bucks at the Dumpy Adams Sports Complex, while sitting in seventh place on the log standings, having lost six of their 20 games this season.

It has been a roller coaster start to life in their second campaign in South Africa’s third division for this season’s Provincial Nedbank Cup champions.

With nine wins and five draws, Amavarara are 13 points behind log leaders Spear of the Nation FC, from Mbizana.

When Amavarara last faced Bucks in the first half of the season, Amavarara won 1-0 in November last year, in an away match.

Amavarara’s assistant coach, Ati Sali, said, “We are hoping to get maximum points at home, as we want to finish in the top five this season. Our mission this season was to win the league, but we had some hiccups. We will continue to work hard and make sure the team finishes the season in a respectable place on the log.”

Spear of the Nation lead the league, with hefty goal difference, despite being level on points with Dutywa’s Matta Milan. They will be hoping to win their game over Bush Bucks, at home in Mbizana on Saturday, while Milan will be on the road against PE Stars on the same day.

This season’s strugglers, Sibanye FC from Port Elizabeth, will be hoping for redemption when they hosts league newcomers, Bush Pirates from Addo, who won their last game against Swartkops Valley United Brothers, also from PE.
