EZIBELENI-BASED side, Amavarara FC, defeated struggling Bush Bucks 4-1 at home in an ABC Motsepe League clash at Jan Smuts Stadium in East London on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Amavarara centre backs, Sapholethu Kelepu and Sibulelo Nikelo, midfielder, Sihle Mtule and striker, Athenkosi Tonisi, kept alive the side’s hopes of finishing second in the ABC Motsepe League, while for Bush Bucks another defeat leaves them in seventh spot on the log.

The East London side’s winless streak has stretched to seven games, as they last won a match in January against Highbury.

Eager to keep the heat on second placed Bizana Pondo Chiefs, who lost 2-0 against FC Siyanda, Amavarara went in search of an early goal and got one thanks to a blunder at the back.

A Bush Bucks’ defender guided a seemingly harmless Athenkosi Lafota’s cross while not aware that Amavarara’s Kelepu was approaching from behind to score a great header, with four minutes on the clock.

The goal ignited a free-flowing half, which presented both teams with opportunities to add to the score line.

Amavarara had several chances to double their lead before the break, with captain Ayavuya Gocina, Lwando Gxaba, Thandolwethu Dayimani and Lafota firing their respective long range efforts wide of Bush Bucks’ goal.

The Ezibeleni-based side finally got extra goals before half time, as they went to the break leading the home team 3-0.

The second half produced only two goals, as the home side found a consolation goal before Amavarara’s Tonisi found the back of the net, to help the Chris Hani District team win the game 4-1.

Amavarara on Saturday will visit Bizana Pondo Chiefs in a battle for ABC Motsepe League Stream A’s second spot, while Seven Stars will welcome log leaders SA Spear of the Nation at the Dumpy Adams Sports Complex in Komani at 15:00.
