JEFFREYS Bay is buzzing with festival fever as the town gears itself for one of the biggest winter festivals in the country – the annual JBay Winterfest.
Accommodation along the beachfront is near impossible to find; restaurants and shops are a beehive of activity, and sport enthusiasts are heading to town.
The popular JBay Winterfest, set to take place from July 6 to 22, has an amazing line-up of events, including the Championship Tour surfing competition, trail running, fishing and more. The Corona JBay Open is part of the elite Championship Tour of surfing, featuring the best competitive surfers in the world and takes place at Supertubes in Jeffreys Bay from July 9 to 22.
This year will see the return of Brazilian superstar, Filipe Toledo, to the Corona JBay Open. He has won the last two events at JBay, in 2017 and 2018, and he comes into this event with the chance of getting a hat-trick at this iconic venue.
Toledo will have his work cut out, as two-time event winner Jordy Smith, 11-time world champion Kelly Slater and two-time world champion John John Florence will be doing their utmost to claim victory.
The inaugural Open 4’s Winterfest Bowls Tournament is set to roll off at the Jeffreys Bay Bowling Club from July 4 to 7 this year, while anglers can reel in thousands of rands at this year’s JBay Winterfest Skins 2019 competition, taking place from the Gap at Kabeljauws to Kitchen Window Restaurant from 07:00 to 13:00 on Saturday, July 6.
The gruelling Endurade JBayX Trail Run takes to the road at Kabeljauws on Saturday, July 6.
The run entails three individual 20km trail runs, all starting 12 hours apart and showcasing the best of the Jeffreys Bay area. Slake Adventures will once again present the high-speed, adrenaline-packed JBay Winterfest Enduro at Mondplaas on Sunday, July 7.
