THE Graaff-Reinet vehicle testing station which has been closed since April 2017, has been reopened by the Dr Beyers Naudé Municipality.
The station was closed after a brake roller machine and pit jacks electronic components were damaged during a thunder storm.
“It is with great pleasure that we can inform communities that the council have managed to repair and upgrade the devices which were damaged and the Graaff-Reinet vehicle testing station is now back in full operation,” the Dr Beyers Naudé Municipality said in a recent statement.
However, due to the vacancy of the examiner of vehicles, they will be operating on an appointment-only basis, starting from Monday this week.
Members of the public must therefore first call or visit their offices in order to be accommodated on the appointment list starting from 08:00 in the morning.
“Also take note that every vehicle testing station must have a quality assurance policy manual as per SANS Code 10216:2017.
“Appointments will range from every half an hour, as the system clearly gives guidance that the testing times, under normal circumstances, must not be less than 20 minutes for a light vehicle and 25 minutes for any vehicle with a tare exceeding 3 500kg.
“This means that we can only accommodate 12 vehicles to be tested per day,” the municipality said.
In the event that a vehicle does not pass its roadworthy test, another two free re-tests may be scheduled within the next 14 days.
However, upon failure to pass the test a third time, an applicant will have to re-apply and pay for a roadworthy test.
Any queries regarding challenges experienced when making an appointment during the implementation phase can be directed to the manager: protection services, CV Rhoode, at 083 754 9908.
Fees payable:
- Other vehicles – R183 application fee + a R69 issue of roadworthy fees
- Goods vehicles – R213 application fee + a R69 issue of roadworthy fees
- Buses – R225 application fee + a R69 issue of roadworthy fees
