UNION High School will be hosting a simultaneous chess tournament with local chess aficionado, Ian Kirstein, on August 31, when 100 players will have the opportunity to pit their skills against Ian’s formidable talent.
A simultaneous chess tournament is a contest in which one player plays multiple games at once against a number of other players.
The event is being held to raise funds for local learners who will be participating in the South African Junior Chess Championship, to be held from January 4 to 12 in Johannesburg next year.
An entry fee of R50 will be charged. It is open to any chess-loving individual – child or adult.
If you are not an avid chess player but would still like to make a contribution, the public are welcome to sponsor a board at R50 each for someone else to play on.
To confirm your place in the competition, or to sponsor a board, contact Hanli Rose-Innes at Union High School at rosehanli@gmail.com or 084 261 3815.
The entry fee can be paid to the following account:
‘UHS Clearing Account’, Standard Bank, account number 082528330, branch code 050-116.
Use ‘C024’ and your name and surname as a reference.
