A total of 557kg of dagga with a street value of R1,7 million has been confiscated by the SAPS in Cradock on Monday.
According to the police spokesperson, Captain Lariane Jonker, information was received from a source, which led to the successful apprehension and arrest of six men for dealing in dagga.
Jonker said that during the operation, a Quantum minibus taxi and trailer were also confiscated, which had been used to transport the illicit drugs.
This followed the swift reaction of the Cradock Cluster operational command centre personnel, who stopped and searched the identified vehicle on the N10 national road, en route to Cape Town on Monday.
“Six adult males between the ages of 18 and 42 were found in possession of 557kg of dagga,” Captain Jonker said.
“They will appear in the Cradock Magistrate’s Court soon.
“The community is once again requested to report information, because successful apprehension of perpetrators requires intelligence collection from the community.”
In another successful dagga bust at the beginning of August, police in the Eastern Cape confiscated dagga to the value of more than R12 million after stopping a minibus with open trailer carrying 57 bags of dagga.
The incident happened on the R56 road between Molteno and Dordrecht.
A 32-year-old man was arrested.
