GRAAFF-REINET’S Midland Car Club will be hosting a car show, displaying beautifully restored vintage and classic cars, on Saturday, September 21.
A vintage car is, in the most general sense, an old automobile, and in the narrower senses of car enthusiasts and collectors, it is a car from the period of 1919 to 1930.
Classic cars are any automobiles older than 20 years. The Southern Cape Old Car Club will join the festivities, and on Monday, September 23, they will depart from Graaff-Reinet to Jeffreys Bay on the 2019 Recollection Rides Heritage Tour.
Besides the above mentioned automobiles, visitors will also be able to see modified cars, motorcycles, farm implements, stationary engines and even brand new cars at the exhibition.
Are you a collector?
Collectors of literally anything are invited to join the collection fair (hosted by the Reformed Church in town) where all sorts of interesting items will be on display.
“We had 33 exhibitors last year,” said organiser Carol-Ann van Jaarsveld, “and we hope to have about 40 this year.
“Entry is free, and anyone with 20 or more collectors’ items can join the exhibition.”
A whopping R5 000 in prize money will go to the best collection, with R2 000 and R800 to second and third place.
Sell your white elephants
If you need to cull among your ever-growing herd of household white elephants, book a stand at the car boot sale for R50. (See contact details below.) So far, 14 stands have been booked.
If the car show and collectors fair alone are not enough to convince you to join, then the mouth-watering food on sale will do the trick!
Offal and samp, chicken sosaties, ice-cream, mini-hamburgers and lots more will be available, while coffee, tea and cooldrinks will quench your thirst.
If the day has been long, visit the beer tent for a tall cold one.
Bring the whole family – little ones can run around and play on the jumping castle.
The car show and collection fair will take place from 09:00 to 16:00 at Laer Volkskool in Somerset Street.
