“WHEN New York calls, you go,” said a very excited Stanley Reid, from Somerset East.

If all goes well, Reid will be packing his suitcase to travel to the Big Apple in July 2020, in order to participate in the International Modelling, Talent and Arts Show Convention (IMTA) which is the biggest convention of its kind in the world.

After being crowned Mr Gill College and Mr Personality 2019, Stanley took a leap of faith and entered an international talent and arts show that was held in East London, where he took part in modelling.

There he was selected to go to Johannesburg, where 500 contestants from South Africa and Namibia participated in the arts and talent show.

The gala event was hosted at the Silverstar Casino in Johannesburg, showcasing live performances by the best in local South African and Namibian talent in the performing arts.

After the event, 60 artists, including Reid, were handpicked by international talent scout, Joey Hunter, to represent South Africa and Namibia at the IMTA from July 18-23 next year in New York.

He believes these artists have a bright future in the performing arts and has invited them to showcase their talent at the IMTA convention in front of the best talent agents from around the globe.

As IMTA is only a platform for up-and-coming talent and stars, performing artists need to find a way to attend the convention and cover the costs of the accommodation and travel to the United States of America.

Reid’s parents, Wesley and Crystal, also have a daughter, who is currently doing her third year at NMU, studying her BCur Nursing degree.

They are proud of their son and are enthusiastically looking for ways and means to make it possible for him to attend the convention.
