UNION High School’s primary department recently held their prize-giving ceremony, where the Grade 5 to 7 learners were awarded for their hard work throughout the year.
A certificate of merit for learners who achieved an average of 80% or more in one or more subjects (nine subjects) was awarded to Na’eem Mahomed, who also won the Old Unionite Shield for the dux student (first in Grade 7), merit certificate for the most promising chess player, Harwood Dixon trophy for the chess champion, the Alistair Kingwill Cup for best actor and the Hazel van Niekerk Award for all–round achievement in academics, sport and culture.
Caytah-Leigh Koeberg was placed second in Grade 7 and was awarded a merit certificate for chess, the Ron Dugmore Cup for the best speaker, the Bernadette Palmer Cup for best actress, the Penny Family Shield for the girl exchange student(s), Oxenham Cup for the most promising all-round junior sportswoman, the Hazel van Niekerk award for all–round achievement in academic, sport and culture and a merit certificate for learners who achieved an average of 80% or more in one or more subjects.
Alutha Wesi was awarded with the U/13 Victor Ludorum, UHS Shield for best fielder at U/13 level, UHS trophy for the most promising cricket player, Justin Kingwill Trophy for best all-round cricket player, merit certificate for the best all-round player of the year, UHS trophy for the most promising player, UHS trophy for U/13 Boys’ cross-country champion and a merit certificate for the best back line player of the year.
