MAWANDE Qeqe, from Cradock, was crowned the first runner-up in the Mr Glam International competition, which was held in the Philippines.
The competition involved various activities from martial arts training to sports and mall fashion shows, as well as press briefings.
The contestants also attended the welcome dinner of the Gusi Peace Prize International, which former South African president, Kgalema Motlanthe, also attended.
Mawande stood out in the competition in the Philippines, maintaining second place on the most public votes, winning Mr Glam Congeniality and taking first place in best formal wear, first runner-up in best resort wear and third runner-up spot in the sports award.
The Glam International brand advocates eco-friendliness and seeks to re-cognise plants and animal rights, as well as protecting, preserving and promoting eco-tourism.
In order to further promote his vision, Mawande worked, inter alia, in events such as domestic educational tourism at the Mountain Zebra National Park.
Mawande is a director of Refine Render Pageant and model management agency in Cradock where he and his co-directors train young people to model, build up their confidence and also learn choreography and runway techniques.
