SPORTS fans in Komani were not impressed after the disappointing defeats for teams playing in the provincial leagues over the weekend.
In Rugby, Breakers RFC was playing their first away game in the second week of the Eastern Cape Super 14 Rugby Tournament.
The side won their first game at home 21-16 against newcomers in the tournament, East London’s Black Eagles.
This past weekend they tried hard to make their presence felt against Ncera Leopards in Ncera, near East London, but their limited possession and turnovers at crucial times cost them dearly with the team suffering a 34-12 defeat.
“We played well in our first game here at home against Black Eagles and we were hoping to build on that but unfortunately against Leopards it was not the case,” said team manager, Solomon Manzi.
“We travelled without some of the players since they are knocking off at 1pm in their work places, so the technical team had limited options in the first half.”
The Komani side is not taking part in the tournament this weekend and will welcome Progress in the second weekend of February at the Tobi Kula Indoor Sports Centre Rugby Field.
Another Komani side competing provincially is the soccer team, Ezibeleni-based Amavarara FC.
The side is taking part in the Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League and lost 1-0 against lowly Yaka United FC in eMaxesibeni (formerly known as Mt Ayliff) on Saturday afternoon.
Amavarara last won a league game in November last year at home against Addo’s Bush Pirates.
The side succumbed to their fourth defeat in the league this season and are now in seventh position with 25 points from 15 games.
