IT is all systems go for the annual Karoo Food Festival which will take place in Cradock from April 24-27.
“The Karoo Food Festival is a local celebration of kos en kuier, with the folk who produce, prepare and serve regional or seasonal food,” said Lisa Ker, one of the enthusiastic organisers.
“Our family-friendly venue is once again set in a shady walled garden, where you can get to know local cooks (including street vendors), taste and buy at food stalls, enjoy free demos, paid for masterclasses and live music throughout the day,” she said.
Ker said that visitors to the town could also go farm-hopping on the Friday of the festival, then discover trendy white rum during a braai party with live music that evening, and stroll down memory lane as they visit private historic venues to experience their entertaining style, with short demos included.
On Saturday night, local restaurants will each offer a Karoo-themed menu, at a set price.
Sunday visitors can enjoy the legendary Lowlands farm, which will have you picking walnuts, rubber ducking on the Great Fish River and generally chilling out.
On Sunday, everybody who is fit and adventurous can take part in the Swaershoek Mountain Bike Challenge. There is also more food and action waiting at Sanctuary Guest and Adventure Farm, with camping, farm stalls, pecan picking, mountain bike trails and obstacle courses. The Karoo Food Festival won an innovation award at the Wine and Food Tourism Awards last year.
