SOME 50 local rugby coaches, referees and first aid personnel renewed their BokSmart accreditation at the BokSmart course.
The course was held at Hangklip High School in Komani on Friday, March 13.
Highlighting the importance of player safety, the course tackles all aspects of safety: concussion management, safety regulations, code of conduct, playing environment, referees and contact, as well as head, neck and spine injuries and banned substances.
The aim of the programme, started by Dr Chris Burger and Dr Petro Jackson, is to raise awareness and educate all role players about safety measures on the field in a bid to minimise injuries.
According to local programme administrator, Maxwell Levine, although the response was positive there is always room for improvement as the course is not a luxury, but a need.
The BokSmart course, now in its 19th year and which falls under the South African Rugby Union, is a must for all rugby coaches.
As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak in South Africa, all planned BokSmart courses for Cathcart, Tarkastad, Cradock, Sada, Molteno and Elliot have been suspended until further notice.
