FLIPPIE Horn (55) and his son, Flippie junior (33), who is disabled following a serious accident, decided that after Flippie junior’s accident he would still pursue his lifelong hobby, but only more intensively and also involve his son in his activities.
Flippie junior is known in Molteno as the man who makes the most beautiful crosses, while his father is known for making sound equipment, where he covers a boom box with a wooden frame, and turns it into a vehicle, and then a cellphone can be connected to it, as a sound system.
They also make bedside lamps, jewellery boxes with beautiful carvings and they also like to decorate woodwork with matches. They are also known for making beautiful wall clocks.
The family was hit hard by the accident in which Flippie junior was injured, when his bicycle collided with a vehicle. At that time, the mother of the family, Dirkie Horn, was already severely affected by a stroke, at a young age.
The whole community stands together to support the family and is also involved in the marketing of the articles, which complements their income.
The Horn couple also has a daughter who works in Jeffrey’s Bay as a home carer for an elderly person.
