LEGENDS football team, Komani Veterans, in partnership with FIFA female referee, Akhona Makalima, hosted their second collaborated Charity Cup tournament, which was held in Sandringham Sports Grounds in Komani.

It proved to be a wonderful venue for the teams to enjoy the tournament and finish on time, as they used both fields on the day.

Sicelo Ndara, of Komani Veterans, was very impressed with the attendance and the participating teams.

“We had teams coming from Port St Johns, Mthatha and Buffalo City, but they were here on time and we managed to play the tournament according to our plans. We had exciting matches on the day and we are happy we are making a difference in our community,” said Ndara.

The tournament was hosted in order to raise money for Ikhaya Lethemba: a school for disabled children. The school was identified by Makalima in 2012 and she invited the club to also help out the school. The veterans club then adopted the school as the beneficiary of their annual Charity Cup Tournament, during September.

The event was also sponsored by major companies in Komani. Funeral directors, Russell and Son, donated R5 000 and a new playing kit for this annual charity cup, while YOLO Lounge donated three trophies and medals towards this tournament.

Zwelitsha All Stars, from Qonce, became the champions on the day, after beating Gompo Legends in the final 1-0. Both finalists came from the Buffalo City Metro.
