Extensive damage has been caused to a water pipe
from Matjieskloof borehole in Middelburg, Eastern Cape, adding more strain to existing water
shortage in the area.
Chris Hani District Municipality said in a statement that persistent vandalism of water infrastructure affects water service provision, especially in areas with existing water shortages.
“The municipality strongly condemns such an act as
it deliberately sabotages provision of the service.
“The technical team is working tirelessly, repairing
all damaged pipes to ensure service is restored as soon as it is possible.”
The Municipality pleaded with the community to play an active role in safeguarding infrastructure set up to provide services to them.
“We equally urge the community to report any water and
sanitation matters to the municipal Customer Care line on 0800 100 100.”
