Copper cables worth over R500 000 were confiscated by police during an intelligence driven multidisciplinary operation including a private security company in Komani.
Police spokesperson, Capt. Namhla Mdleleni, said that the Wednesday, February 16 operation was carried out by the Flying Squad, K9 Crime Intelligence and Red Guard Security. Police received information, she said, about a Ford Ranger bakkie with a GP registration transporting copper cables from East London to Johannesburg.
“Members responded to the information. A vehicle fitting the description was spotted and upon searching it, copper cables to the value of R650 000 were confiscated along with R22 700 in cash. Five suspects were detained for possession of suspected stolen property and damage to infrastructure,” Mdleleni said.
The suspects will appear before the Komani Magistrates Court soon. Acting district commissioner, Ziziwe Magqashela, commended the quick response by the police.
