NTABETHEMBA Netball Association (NTANA) hosted their second annual netball tournament at the Thornhill Sports Ground on Saturday, which turned out to be a huge success.

NTANA hosts this tournament early in the year in preparation for the league that includes more than 20 teams affiliated under the association.

The tournament became an extra to the existing Chris Hani District Netball competitions and has been created for players to grow and showcase their talent in the sport.

The chairperson of the NTANA, Nobukhosibakhe Gaba, said they want to use this tournament as a stepping stone towards the vision of improving the standard of netball in the area.

“This tournament is very close to our hearts, as NTANA, because it is about grassroots to greatness, we are creating a brand that complements health and fitness and with a strong focus on women empowerment.

“Netball is the perfect fit, mostly notably so because it has the greatest sport participation numbers for women in the country. We want to see players from this tournament playing for the national team,” said Gaba.

The tournament was graced by 12 teams, including invited teams from outside Ntabethemba.

Each team paid a R300 entry fee, since the association is still looking for sponsors.

Eagles Netball Club from Ezibeleni were crowned as champions of the tournament after beating Rocklands in the final to walk away with the prize money of R1 500.

Rocklands went home with R1 300 for being the second-best team in the tournament, while Golden Chiefs received R800 after finishing in third place.
