CHDM to host inaugural Economic Development and Investment Summit

Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane will be among the guests attending the summit.


It is all systems go for the two-day Chris Hani District Municipality’s (CHDM) inaugural Economic Development and Investment Summit.

Chris Hani Development Agency (CHDA), as mandated by CHDM, is facilitating the summit.

Municipal spokesperson, Bulelwa Ganyaza said that the summit will take place on July 13 and 14, where delegates will be addressed by Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, Small Business Development Minister, Stella Ndabeni Abrahams and CHDM Executive Mayor, Wongama Gela. Premier Oscar Mabuyane and CHDA board chairperson Andile Mini will also be in attendance.

The summit will be hosted in line with the council’s vision 2030.

“The objectives are to position the district as a key point for socio economic development and investment destination, to market, showcase and profile district projects and initiatives towards economic development. The summit. The summit will also discuss the drivers of unemployment, poverty and inequality within the district and provide sustainable and pragmatic solutions,” Ganyaza said.

She added that the delegates will also explore policy reforms on economic transformation and development in the district and discuss popular challenges of infrastructural development, water provision and food and energy insecurity.

“The outcomes and deliverables include detailed situational analysis of the district’s economic development and investment offering prospective investors an overview of opportunities within the district for business.

“Pledge and confirmation investment for the district, framework agreement that outlines roles and responsibilities to accelerate economic development and investment in the district are some outcomes and deliverables,” Ganyaza said.
