On August 15, Wandile Mlanga was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Cradock Regional Court for the brutal murder of his girlfriend in Lingelihle Township.
According to police spokesperson Captain Namhla Mdleleni, in March police found the murder victim lying in a pool of blood with multiple injuries.
“Mlanga later handed himself over to the police and remained in custody until his case was finalised,” said Mdleleni.
“On August 15, he was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.”
Chris Hani District Commissioner, Major General Rudolph Adolph welcomed the sentence meted out to Mdleleni by the Cradock Regional Court.
Adolph reiterated that Gender Based Violence continued to be a profound and widespread problem within communities.
“As the SAPS, we urge victims to report any form of GBV perpetrated against them. Violence in a private space cannot be detected by police for assistance and intervention unless it is reported,” said Adolph.
“Perpetrators must be exposed and removed from society so that they can no longer be a threat to the vulnerable.
“The investigating officer D/Constable Siya Ntsimango is commended for securing the 15 year murder sentence.”
