Illegal electricity connection results in power outage in Komani

A mini substation in Westbourne, Komani has been left vandalised after Izinyoka (electricity cable thieves) tried to connect their residential area illegally on Monday, November 21, which has resulted in a power outage in the area. 

According to the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality the illegal connection affected the Western substation and all areas feeding from it are currently disconnected.  

This illegal operation was allegedly carried out during the load shedding period between 21:00 and 23:00 on November 21.  

The municipality’s technical team is on site assessing the damage and have a view to restore the power supply. 

Affected areas include Westbourne, Madeira Park, Kings Park, Amberdale, Horizon View, Abattoir, Waste Water Treatment Works and a portion of the CBD. 

The municipality has urged members of the community to report those responsible for illegal connections.
