Eastern Cape Junior Bantamweight champion Enathi “The Hired Gun” Stelle defended his title for the first time when he defeated the number one contender, Bagcina Gowa from Braelyn in East London at the Thobi Kula Indoor Sports Centre in Komani on February 18.
“The Hired Gun” as Stelle is affectionately known in the boxing circle won by technical knockout in the first round of the fight. The referee ended the fight after Gowa went down for the second time.
The Mdantsane-born boxer was defending his EC Junior Bantamweight title for the first time after winning the vacant title last year in September, also winning by a technical knockout against Lelona Siyo in East London.
The 24-year-old Stelle who was very confident, said their game plan made the fight easier for them to win it in the first round.
“Fortunately, we knew how to play against Bagcina because we have been following his fights. We had enough time to plan for him and our game plan worked well and that is why he could not get into the second round,” said Stelle.
After the fight his manager Thando Mshumpela said they will defend the title once again before focussing on challenging Komani’s Landile Ngxeke, who is the current champion of SA Junior Bantamweight title.
In the main supporting bout, Whittlesea-born boxer Xolisa Magusha failed to impress in front of home fans when he was knocked in the fourth round by Sikho Moshani from Duncan Village in a six-round Flyweight contest.
In the women’s Flyweight division fight, Thaphelo Bokwe stole the crowd at the Thobi Kula Indoor Sports Centre winning by points, beating Asanda Simelane from Rustenburg from the North West.
Tando Zonke of TZ Boxing Promotions was happy with the attendance of the tournament and said he will host another tournament before the end of the year in Komani.
